Open-space photovoltaic system

Our new open-space photovoltaic system has been in operation on the site of the former factory landfill since April 10, 2025. In addition to the Y2 steam turbine, which was commissioned in 2022 to convert excess steam from the sulfuric acid plant into electricity, this is now our second plant for generating sustainable electricity at TIB. It is another significant milestone in our sustainability strategy, as it not only increases our independence from market electricity price developments, but also makes a major contribution to reducing our CO2 emissions. A total of approx. 400 module tables were erected on a total area of approx. 36,000 m². 8052 modules with a PV generator output of approx. 4,469 kWp generate an average of approx. 4,585 megawatt hours of green electricity per year, most of which is used for our own consumption. This corresponds to approximately 36% of our total electricity requirements in 2024.
During a visit by representatives of the City of Mannheim's Economic Development Department and the "Local Green Deal Mannheim," the system was recognized as the largest PV system in Mannheim at present.
