Product information

TIB KAT 213 – Dioctyltin dilauryl mercaptide for PU adhesives, elastomers, and foams

TIB KAT 213, also known as bis(dodecylthio)dioctyltin or dioctyltin didodecylmercaptide, is an octyl-based dialkylated Sn(IV) organotin with a thiol-functionalized ligand.

As with other mercaptide catalysts, this ligand ensures:

  • Controlled, delayed initial reactivity (upfront delay)
  • Improved hydrolytic stability
  • High effectiveness typical of organotin in PU systems

Compared to metal carboxylates such as TIB KAT 218, TIB KAT 216, or TIB KAT 300, TIB KAT 213 offers better controllable reactivity.

Areas of application

TIB KAT 213 is particularly suitable for PU formulations that require targeted, thermally activated reactivity:

  • PU adhesives
  • Elastomers
  • PU foams
  • Coatings (bake-cure systems)

Reactivity profile

  • Preferably isocyanate-polyol reactions
  • Less influence on the water reaction
  • Limited use in water-based systems

Important: Behavior in other systems

As with other thiol-functionalized tin catalysts, the following applies:

  • Largely inactive in silicone and esterification reactions
  • Thermal deblocking necessary to start back-end curing
  • Due to the octyl-based structure, the delay is less pronounced than with mercaptoacetates such as TIB KAT 321 or TIB KAT 214
  • CAS-Nr.
