TIB STAN S50 – Stannous Chloride Dihydrate Solution for Reduction, Esterification & Technical Applications
TIB STAN S50 (SnCl₂·2H₂O) is a high-metal-content inorganic Sn(II) catalyst and part of the liquid product range based on the solid grade TIB KAT 154. TIB KAT 154 is produced from high-purity tin to maximize stannous (Sn II) and minimize Sn(IV).
TIB STAN S50 is a stable liquid formulation containing approx. 50% TIB KAT 154 and 25% active stannous tin. Other liquid variants include TIB STAN S45, TIB STAN S72, and TIB STAN S25.
TIB STAN S50 is listed on numerous international regulatory inventories, making it ideal for multinational formulation development.

- Personal care formulations
- Surface finishing / electroplating
- Oil well simulation (acidizing additive)
- Corrosion inhibitors
- Glass applications (e.g., silver mirrors, color modification)
As a reducing agent, TIB STAN S50 is used, among other things, for the reduction of silver for mirror coatings and for the reduction of iron in oil/gas well treatments. It is also used in industrial water treatment to reduce or precipitate toxic metal ions.
Its high reactivity is due to its high Sn(II) content, which enables efficient electron transfer. Differences between the STAN liquid grades result primarily from their respective tin content.
