TIB KAT 728 – Bismuth Octoate for Polyurethane Applications

TIB KAT 728 is a commonly used metal-based bismuth catalyst for polyurethanes. It is used in a wide range of PU systems, including coatings, adhesives and sealants, foams, plastics and elastomers. TIB KAT 728 can also be used in lubricant formulations.

The catalyst is soluble in common solvents for polyurethane systems; however, solution stability should be carefully checked.

As a PU catalyst, TIB KAT 728 offers good overall reactivity. Due to its low bismuth content and large ligand, it enables a balanced front-end/pot life and back-end/final cure reactivity. As is typical for bismuth carboxylates, the final cure is significantly improved by added or exothermically generated heat.

The recommended dosage is 0.01–0.1 wt%. TIB KAT 728 is hydrolytically stable under normal humidity conditions, but loses this stability as humidity increases. As with all bismuth carboxylates, hydrolysis stability is lower than that of organotin compounds.
