TIB KAT 720 – Bismuth Octoate Formulation for Polyurethane Applications

TIB KAT 720 is a widely used, metal-based bismuth catalyst for polyurethanes. It is used in numerous PU applications, including coatings, adhesives and sealants, foams, plastics, and elastomers.

TIB KAT 720 is also suitable for lubricant formulations. Due to its formulation with an aliphatic hydrocarbon, TIB KAT 720 has a lower viscosity than TIB KAT 728. As a polyurethane catalyst, TIB KAT 720 offers good overall reactivity.

Thanks to its low metal content and large ligand, it exhibits balanced curing behavior with stable front-end/pot life and back-end/final cure. Reactivity, especially final cure, is significantly improved by added or exothermically generated heat.

The typical dosage is 0.01–0.1 wt%. TIB KAT 720 is hydrolytically stable under normal humidity conditions; however, stability decreases as humidity increases. As is typical for bismuth carboxylates, hydrolysis stability is lower than for organotin compounds.
