TIB KAT 708
Product information
TIB KAT 708 - Bismuth and Zinc Neodecanoate for Polyurethane Systems
TIB KAT 708 is a blend of bismuth and zinc co-catalysts that is primarily used in polyurethane applications. This compound uses neodecanoic acid as a ligand source to enhance compatibility with various polyurethane formulations. The two metal components provide distinct catalytic effects on polyurethane reactions, giving TIB KAT 708 its unique reactivity.
TIB KAT 708 is available upon request with different bismuth-to-zinc ratios to achieve the desired level of reactivity. Its main applications include polyurethane elastomers, rigid foam, and coatings and adhesives. TIB KAT 708 is ideal for specialty chemicals where minimizing toxicity concerns is important, and it can serve as a replacement for sulfur-containing organotin compounds, such as TIB KAT 319, 321, and 316. TIB KAT 708 can also be used in lubricant formulations.
- Its balanced reactivity in polyurethane systems is achieved through the combination of bismuth and zinc components.
- Bismuth carboxylates catalyze the polyol-isocyanate reaction for urethane group formation, similar to tin-based catalysts.
- Zinc carboxylates promote crosslinking reactions to form biurets and allophanates, which improve physical properties such as hardness. However, these zinc-specific reactions typically require additional heat to be effective.
