TIB KAT 319 – Dibutyltin Dilauryl Mercaptide for PU Adhesives, Elastomers & Foams

TIB KAT 319, also known as Di-N bis- (Dodecylthio)Tin or Dibutyl bis-(Dodecylthio) Stannane, is a butyl-based dialkylated Sn(IV) organotin catalyst with a thiol-functionalized ligand.

This ligand provides:

  • more controlled reactivity
  • improved hydrolytic stability
  • delayed front-end (upfront delay)

This distinguishes TIB KAT 319 significantly from classic metal carboxylates such as TIB KAT 218, TIB KAT 216, or TIB KAT 300. The catalyst is listed worldwide on most chemical inventories and is widely used in industry.

Reactivity & Areas of Application

TIB KAT 319 is mainly used in polyurethane applications, especially where controlled reaction and exothermic curing are desired:

  • Adhesives
  • Elastomers
  • PU foams

For coatings, TIB KAT 319 is particularly suitable in oven/bake-cured systems, less so for room temperature curing systems.

Selective reactivity

  • Preferably isocyanate-polyol reaction (urethane formation)
  • Less effect on the water reaction
  • Limited use in water-based systems

Inactivity in silicone and ester systems

Due to the blocking sulfur ligand, TIB KAT 319 shows little activity in silicone and esterification reactions. → Thermal deblocking is necessary to start the back-end reaction.
