TIB KAT 248
Product information
TIB KAT 248 – Dibutyltin Oxide (DBTO) for esterification, transesterification, and high-temperature polymer chemistry
TIB KAT 248 (dibutyltin oxide, DBTO / dibutyloxotin) is an amorphous, solid organotin catalyst with a very high tin content (~48%) and an oxide ligand, which gives the product high reactivity and excellent temperature stability.
Main applications
TIB KAT 248 is mainly used in:
- Esterification and transesterification reactions
- Polycondensation processes
- Transesterification of vinyl acetate or acrylic acid copolymers
- Production of polycarbonates
The catalyst can be used in a wide temperature range of approx. 90–260°C and is also suitable for lower temperature processes, e.g. in polyester or alkyd resin synthesis.
Special grades & liquid variants
For use in electrocoatings (E-Coat), TIB KAT 248 is available in various particle size distributions, e.g.:
- TIB KAT 248 LC – narrower particle size distribution, lower chloride content
Although TIB KAT 248 is supplied as a solid as standard, there are several liquid DBTO variants, including:
- TIB KAT 436 – with plasticizer, high tin content
- TIB KAT 421 – with plasticizer, lower tin content
- TIB KAT 435 – with plasticizer, lower tin volume
- TIB KAT 437 – silane complex
- TIB KAT 438 – other DBTO/silane special formulations
These liquid grades are used in particular as silicone condensation catalysts.
Dosage
Depending on the application, the typical usage amount is 0.01–0.5%.
