TIB KAT 229
Product information
TIB KAT 229 – Dioctyltin diacetate for PU, silicone, and polyester chemistry
TIB KAT 229 is an octyl-based organotin with carboxylate functionality. Due to its high tin content (28%) and small ligands, it is one of the most reactive liquid octyltin catalysts. As an octyltin, TIB KAT 229 is a suitable alternative to regulated butyltin products such as TIB KAT 233 (DBTA) and TIB KAT 218 (DBTL) – the latter is classified as SVHC in the EU.
TIB KAT 229 serves as a catalyst for:
- Polyurethane syntheses
- Transesterifications
- Polycondensation of RTV silicone resins & silanes
- Production of polycarbonate-based raw materials
Reactivity & performance
The reactivity of TIB KAT 229 is similar to that of its butyl-based counterpart TIB KAT 233, but TIB KAT 229 is typically slightly slower due to:
- the larger alkyl residue (octyl)
- steric effects
- the slightly lower tin content (28% vs. 33%)
typically slightly slower, although this is highly formulation-specific.
Other properties:
- Slightly moisture-sensitive
- Highly reactive and compatible with many raw material systems
- Clear, liquid formulation, easy to incorporate
