TIB KAT 188
Product information
TIB KAT 188 – Stannous oxide for esterification and low-toxicity PU/polymer processes
TIB KAT 188 (stannous oxide, SnO, tin(II) oxide) is an inorganic tin(II) catalyst with a very high metal content that is used in a wide range of esterification reactions. The product is manufactured with minimized Sn(IV) content to maximize the active stannous content.
As a low-toxicity alternative to common organotin catalysts such as TIB KAT 248, TIB KAT 188 is included in most international regulatory lists and is ideal for global formulation development.
TIB KAT 188 is supplied as a free-flowing, white solid with a narrow particle size distribution and low moisture content. The product is neutral and non-corrosive.
For esterifications, TIB KAT 188 is typically used at a dosage of 0.01–0.10% by weight. It exhibits its highest catalytic activity at 180–260°C and enables the production of low-color, high-quality esters.
After the reaction, TIB KAT 188 can be easily removed by chemical processes or by adsorption with TIB TINEX® products.
