TIB KAT 160
Product information
TIB KAT 160 – Stannous Oxalate for Esterification & Low-Toxicity Applications
TIB KAT 160 (Stannous Oxalate, Tin(II) Oxalate) is an inorganic tin catalyst with a high metal content that is used in a variety of esterification reactions. As an inorganic tin, it offers lower toxicity and is an effective alternative to common organotin catalysts such as TIB KAT 248 and TIB KAT 256. The product is supplied as a free-flowing white solid with low moisture content.
TIB KAT 160 is primarily used as a catalyst for the production of monomeric and polymeric ester-based products, including:
- Nonionic surfactants
- Polyester polyols
- Plasticizers
Typical areas of application are plastics, coatings, and personal care. Due to its low-toxicity profile, TIB KAT 160 is particularly suitable for applications that rely on raw material-poor, safe chemicals.
The catalyst exhibits high reactivity and enables nearly complete conversion rates with short reaction times, especially at temperatures above 160°C. TIB KAT 160 produces light-colored, color-stable esters and generates hardly any side reactions compared to acid catalysts. In addition, it is non-corrosive.
The typical dosage for esterification processes is between 0.01–0.2% by weight.
Once the reaction is complete, TIB KAT 160 can be easily removed by chemical treatment or adsorption with TINEX® products.
