TIB KAT 154
Product information
TIB KAT 154 – Stannous Chloride Dihydrate for esterification, reduction, and surface finishing
TIB KAT 154 (SnCl₂·2H₂O) is a highly reactive, inorganic tin(II) salt with a high metal content and is manufactured in accordance with A.C.S. specifications. The product is available as a solid stannous chloride dihydrate; liquid variants such as TIB STAN S45 and TIB STAN S72 are also available. Stability and free-flowing properties can be improved by mixing with silica, talc, or solid resins.
TIB KAT 154 is used in numerous chemical applications, including:
- Esterification (key reaction for the production of many esters)
- Thermoplastic elastomers
- Personal care formulations
- Surface finishing
- Oil and gas industry (e.g., as an additive in acidizing)
- Corrosion inhibitors
- Glass industry (e.g., for silver mirrors and color modification)
As a reducing agent, stannous chloride dihydrate has a special significance, e.g., in electroplating: It acts as a primary reducing agent by converting metal ions (e.g., silver or tin) into their metallic state, which then deposit evenly on the substrate surface. This results in thin, uniform, corrosion-resistant metal coatings.
After the reaction, TIB KAT 154 can be easily removed by chemical treatment or adsorption with TINEX® products.
