Zinc chloride Opening
With the successful modernization of our zinc chloride plant, TIB Chemicals AG has reached another important milestone in its corporate development. This comprehensive investment project was launched in 2018 to meet the growing demands for environmental protection, occupational safety, and sustainable chemical production. After several years of intensive planning, construction, and commissioning phases, the cold commissioning was successfully completed in 2024.
As part of the project, the existing infrastructure was extensively modernized and expanded. Key measures included the construction of Tank Farm 384, the modernization of technical systems in Buildings 54, 84, and Tank Farm 382, and the integration of new production and storage capacities. In addition, Building 55 received a new roof while operations continued. A newly constructed pipe bridge connected the existing infrastructure to the new plant components, enabling further optimization of production processes. Furthermore, a new raw material storage facility for ammonium chloride was built and commissioned in Building 86.
These expansions lay the foundation for safe, efficient, and sustainable production of specialty chemicals for the surface treatment and galvanizing industries.

The project was implemented under exceptionally challenging conditions. The effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic led at times to significant constraints on the availability of personnel, materials, and technical components. Temporary project interruptions and sharp price increases in international procurement markets posed additional challenges.
The new production facility incorporates state-of-the-art process steps such as oxidation, precipitation, filtration, cementation, and manganese reduction. These processes are essential for the manufacture of high-quality products and raw materials for the domestic and international hot-dip galvanizing industry. State-of-the-art plant technology enables production processes to be organized more efficiently while ensuring high quality standards.
Following a successful testing and trial phase, the new plant is now transitioning to regular operation. At the same time, the existing plant in Building 55 is being phased out. The modernization not only strengthens TIB Chemicals’ competitiveness but also improves the site’s sustainability, process reliability, and future viability.
