We’ve recently welcomed some unusual—but extremely helpful—new employees to our plant grounds: Ten ewes and eleven lambs from the Schiemann sheep farm in Bad Dürkheim are providing natural maintenance for the green spaces around our solar power plant. Through their work, the animals are making an important contribution to greater sustainability and environmental friendliness on our grounds.

The green spaces under and around solar power systems must be maintained regularly so that the solar modules can operate optimally and the areas remain in good condition over the long term. Instead of relying on motorized mowers or other mechanical equipment, we’ve opted for a particularly sustainable solution: grazing by sheep. The animals graze on the grass naturally and keep the vegetation at an ideal height without interfering with the solar plant.

This form of green space maintenance offers numerous benefits. By avoiding the use of machinery, we conserve valuable resources. At the same time, it reduces the energy consumption that would normally be required for mowing. Another positive effect is the reduction of noise on the plant grounds. While lawn mowers and other equipment are often associated with high noise levels, our animal helpers do their work almost silently.

Furthermore, natural grazing actively contributes to climate protection. Since fewer machines are used, the associated CO₂ emissions are reduced. The combination of renewable energy generation through the photovoltaic system and environmentally friendly land management makes our factory grounds even more sustainable. In this way, we combine modern energy technology with traditional and nature-based methods of landscape conservation.

In addition to the ecological benefits, the sheep also enhance the appearance of our company grounds. Employees and visitors alike enjoy the animal guests, who create a pleasant and lively atmosphere. The eleven lambs, in particular, attract a lot of attention with their curious and playful nature.

Our collaboration with the Schiemann Sheep Farm in Bad Dürkheim demonstrates how regional partnerships can make a valuable contribution to sustainable projects. As a family-run business, the Schiemann Sheep Farm has many years of experience in sheep farming and ensures that the animals are cared for in a manner appropriate to their species. At the same time, we’re creating a win-win situation: The sheep find ideal grazing conditions on our green spaces, while we benefit from natural and efficient maintenance of our grounds.

We are very pleased about this sustainable collaboration and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Schiemann Sheep Farm for their support. With our new “animal landscape caretakers,” we are taking another step toward environmentally conscious and resource-efficient operations. The sheep on our factory grounds impressively demonstrate that sustainability and innovative energy solutions can harmonize perfectly.
