Our catalysts for optimal performance in construction

Metal catalysts, especially tin catalysts, play a crucial role in the construction industry in the production of polyurethane and silicone products, used as sealants, adhesives, foams, and coatings. They accelerate curing and improve the properties of these materials, valued for their flexibility, weather, and moisture resistance. In polyurethane sealants and adhesives, they provide elastic, weather-resistant bonds; in polyurethane foams, they enhance insulation and sealing properties. Silicone sealants benefit from faster curing and high elasticity for applications in structural glazing. Tin-catalyzed coatings also offer protection for floors and surfaces against chemicals and mechanical wear.

The most important applications for metal catalysts in the construction industry include:

1. Polyurethane sealants and adhesives Tin catalysts are used to accelerate curing and crosslinking reactions in polyurethane sealants and adhesives. These products are essential for sealing joints, for example in windows, doors and facades. Resilient connections: Tin-based polyurethane sealants and adhesives offer high flexibility and weather resistance, making them particularly suitable for construction applications.

2. Polyurethane foams Building insulation: Rigid polyurethane foams, which are often used in thermal insulation panels and insulation layers in walls, roofs and floors, benefit from tin catalysts. They ensure uniform foam formation and a controlled reaction rate, which improves the thermal properties and structural integrity of the material. Seals and cavity fillings: In construction applications, polyurethane foams are also used as filling and sealing material in cavities or for sound and heat insulation.

3. Silicone sealants and elastomers RTV silicones: Tin catalysts are used in silicone sealants that cure at room temperature to accelerate the curing reaction. These sealants are widely used in windows, bathroom joints, facades and other areas that require a long-lasting, flexible seal. Architectural glazing and structural bonding: Silicone sealants with tin catalysts are ideal, especially for applications that require high elasticity and weather resistance.

4. Coatings In some special cases, tin-catalyzed polyurethane coatings are used, e.g. for floor coatings and as a protective layer for steel or concrete surfaces. The tin catalysts help to improve hardening and bonding to the substrate, which increases the resistance of the coating to chemicals and mechanical stress.
